The Golden Rules of the CrossFit Community

CrossFit is a branded, highly intense training program which seems to have taken over the fitness community. CrossFit gyms, also known as boxes, can be found all over the world and if you are lucky enough to live in a big city like New York, you can choose between dozens of boxes. For the best trainers, consider the Brick Crossfit New York Gym. However, what makes the CrossFit program so popular is not the modern gyms, and not even the intense workouts. It is the community that has formed around this program. CrossFit boxes are different all over the world, but at each gym, you will find the same supportive, tight-knit community. Keep on reading to discover the unwritten rules of this amazing community.

1. Respect for gym etiquette rules

CrossFit boxes are like sanctuaries for people who like to always push themselves. Respecting the box is one of the main rules that keeps this community so tight. If you don’t want to be an outsider, you would do well to show the same level of respect for the gym like other members. This includes everything from arriving to class on time, to cleaning up after yourself and taking proper care of the equipment.

2. Respect for other gym members

While it is very common for CrossFit gym members to become friends, these friendships mustn’t disturb other members or the gym staff. This means that it is not all right to have private conversations while the trainers are speaking to the class, nor is it ok to be extremely loud near other people who are training. Moreover, you should never steal other people’s equipment, even if they are not using it at the moment, as they might need it in a few minutes. If you need something, ask if you can borrow it, and make sure to always return it as soon as you are done using it.

3. Humility

There are a lot of people who don’t like to go to the gym, because they are afraid that they will be judged by other gym members for being in a poor shape. Well, this is not the case for CrossFit boxes, where people understand that they are not there to admire their muscles in the mirror, nor are they there to compete with other gym members. When you practice CrossFit, you are only competing against yourself, so you should always leave your ego at the door, and remember that everybody is equal at the box. Needless to say, it is pointless to cheat when declaring your WOD repetitions, as nobody really cares if you are better than them. People at these gyms only care about improving themselves.

4. Support

Unlike other training programs that are aimed at weight loss or pure muscle gain, CrossFit is designed for functional strength, and it is incredibly intense. No matter for how long you have been working out, CrossFit will always be challenging, as the workouts have adjustable intensities. Since everybody understands the struggle of these workouts, people have made a habit out of supporting one another and it is very common for gym members to even cheer on one another when they complete a workout. This type of support is very motivational, and it creates a sense of unity and team spirit among all gym members.

5. Determination

Such an intense training program requires a high level of determination. Quitting is not an option at the local box, so it is essential to do everything in your power to finish your workouts. Take breaks if you must or ask your coach for help, but don’t give up. Don’t give up on your workout, and don’t give up on the program. It will be very hard at first, but after a while, you will be hooked, and you won’t be able to imagine your life without the daily WOD. Moreover, the achievements that you will have at the gym will also help you improve your self-esteem, and in time, you will learn to apply the same determination in all areas of your life.
