- At-home PCR test – this is a test you purchase and use by collecting your sample and mailing it to the nearest laboratory near you for testing. Home PCR tests are highly accurate, but their turnaround time could take days as special laboratory instruments are needed.
- At-home rapid antigen test – this is a test kit you can purchase over the counter through qualified pharmacies. Rapid antigen tests provide fast results, but compared to a PCR test, they are less accurate. This test tends to produce false-negative results and cannot detect symptomless infection. This may prompt a person to opt for a PCR test for confirmation.

Home test kits are important to remember that they aren’t a substitute for keeping people safe. More important is for people to continually observe health protocols like wearing masks and social distancing.
