Cannabis used to be prescribed by ancient doctors to their patient’s thousands of years ago, and this was only because they witnessed the medical benefits of it. In modern science, lights are being shed on how the healing happens through a biological process, the chemistry, and plants working in concert.
From almost the last decade, the studies on cannabidiol, THC, CBD oil, and other types of cannabinoids are done exponentially. The significance of the endocannabinoid system has been identified in the mid-1990 by Raphael Mechoulam. It was found that the endogenous chemical transmitters are one of the most important factors to maintain health. Endogenous cannabinoids are naturally created inside a body, and their receptors are present in the brain, connective tissue, glands, immune cells, and skin.
There is a huge number of benefits of CBD in a human body; this article doesn’t have the scope to detail them all, so let’s take a look at a few of them in this article:
- Reduce Obesity and Diabetes
People who take regular cannabis, their body mass index is lower, they have smaller circumferences of waist, and therefore, they are at lower risk of being diabetic or obese.
On 2011, American Journal of Epidemiology published a report that on a survey on fifty-two thousand participants they found that cannabis users have about one-third lower rate of obesity; whereas, the cannabis users consume more calories per day. This is because of stimulation of ghrelin by THC. Ghrelin is a hormone that increases appetite and increases carbohydrate metabolism.
In 2006, a study showed that CBD lowers diabetes in lab rats.
In 2015, Israeli-American biopharmaceutical began their stage 2 CBD trails to treat diabetes. In the research, it was seen that CBD reduces weight by converting white fat to brown fat by promoting noatherogenesisrmal insulin production and sugar metabolism.
- Lower Risk of Bad Cholesterol
In 2013, in a study 4,652 participated to check the effect of cannabis on metabolic system and compare it to non-cannabis users currently and former users. It was found that high-density lipoprotein (HDL-C) or good cholesterol’s level increases in a person who is a cannabis user. In the same year, Canada’s Inuit community on research found that cannabis users have lower LDC-C or bad cholesterol and they have a higher number of good cholesterols.
- Reduce Cancer Risk
In 2012 CBD was used to treat animals in a laboratory and they significantly had a lower risk of developing colon cancer. In some studies, it showed that THC has the ability to prevent tumors and even reduces them. In 1996, it was found that both benign and hepatic adenoma got reduced in animals.
In 2012, scientists analyzed eighty-four thousand male patient’s medical records, and they found that patients who use cannabis but do not do tobacco, had 45% lower bladder cancer, compared to others. You can use CBD topically to prevent skin cancers. Scientists are now focused on finding out the right ratio of CBD and THC to make an effective dose to treat and cure cancer patients.
