Healthy candies are the next thing in the confectionery world

As today’s generation grows more health conscious, confectionaries are seeing the need to innovate their candies to cater to the diet of these health buffs. According to the Markets Insights Reports, the global candy industry in 2018 stood at $79.35 billion in value. The market is forecast to grow at a compound annual rate of 3.5 percent until 2023.

As demand for candy boosts, Senior Vice-President at Nestlé’s confectionery Sandra Martinez de Arévalo noted that the industry is witnessing two revolutionary trends. The first one is “premiumization” wherein people constantly explore for the best taste. Meanwhile, the second trend gearing towards consumers’ healthier diet.

This observation proves to be true in Europe. According to ABICAB, vegan, sugar free and exotic flavors boosted Brazil’s 2017 confection exports to Europe. The report, cited by the ConfectioneryNews.com, said outbound shipments of sweets, snacks and ingredients to the European Union jumped 73 percent year-on-year.

As such, more and more companies are experimenting on infusing fruits, even a flavor of it, into their candies and chocolates. This provides consumers the feeling of something natural and healthy. Here are some must-try candies for health lovers:

  1. Maui Fruit Jewels’ fruit candies

Its products do not contain artificial flavoring or food coloring.

For the second time, the gourmet food business was nominated at the Hawaii Food Manufacturers Association’s 2017 TASTE awards. The startup company competed in two categories namely for Product of the Year and Start up of the Year. In addition, the company was recently recognized, along with 199 others, as a winner in the Preserves category for the 2018 Good Food Awards held in February.
